Giuseppe Albanese was born in Reggio Calabria (Italy) in 1979. He attended the Grammar high school in Palmi (RC) graduating with flying colours.
In March 2003 he pursued a Laurea degree magna cum laude in Philosophy at the University of Messina. Subject of his thesis is on the aesthetics of Liszt in the Années de pèlerinage.
Today, he is professor of Methodology of Musical Communication at the University of Messina.
Albanese begun the piano lessons - at his own request - at the age of five. In 1993, he attended Conservatory Rossini at Pesaro, receiving his diploma with highest honours at the age of 17.
He went on to study at the International Piano Academy "Incontri col Maestro" at Imola, earning a diploma with special prize and maximum honours in 2003.
He has won first place in national piano competitions in Ravenna 1993 and Rome 1994, as well as first prize in Premio Venezia in 1997. Albanese was awarded special prize for the best execution of the contemporary music at 54th Busoni International Piano Competition in Bolzano. In July 2003, he received first prize at 2nd International Piano Competition "Vendome Prize" in London and Lisbon, defined by Le Figaro as "the piano world's most prestigious award".
Albanese has performed throughout Italy and abroad in solo recitals and with orchestras leading European concert halls including Salle Cortot in Paris; Konzerthaus, Berlin; Philharmonie, Essen; St. Martin in the Fields, London; Gulbenkian Orchestra, Lisbon; and in New York at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Rockefeller University.
He has participated in festivals such as Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, with the orchestra of the theatre of Florence conducted by James Conlon; the International Festival of Colmar, with the Italian Switzerland Orchestra conducted by Alain Lombard; the Tiroler Festspiele of Kufstein and Erl directed by Gustav Khun, where he was engaged again for the 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 seasons; the International Piano Festival "En Blanco & Negro" of Mexico City; and others.
In his native Italy, he has performed in Venice with the orchestra of the Gran Teatro La Fenice, conducted by Tomas Netopil; the San Carlo Theatre, Naples, conducted by George Pehlivanian; the Teatro Comunale, Bologna, conducted by Othmar Maga; the Parco della Musica, Rome, with the Orchestra di Roma e del Lazio conducted by Dmitri Jurowski, and in the Politeama Garibaldi Theatre in Palermo with the Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana conducted by Will Humburg.
In 1998, he has recorded his first CD-Recital in Rome containing the Fantasies of Schubert, Chopin, Schumann and Skrjabin; in 1999, he has recorded for the label "Agorà" the first absolute execution of the "Europe Piano Concerto" by L. Simoni with the Târgu-Mures Philarmonic.
In 2000, he has recorded as soloist a CD symbolically dedicated to the year "1900", edited by "Frame" of Florence, containing music of Skrjabin, Szymanowski, MacDowell and Bartók (he has recorded the Bartók's "Variations" in first world execution).
This CD was reviewed like "CD of the month" from "Suonare News" (Italian famous magazine) (December 2001) and "5 stars" (in the artistic judgment as well as in technical) from the magazine "Amadeus" (December 2001).
His last recording, "En plein air", edited by the Jerusalem Music Centre (JMC), features works by Mendelssohn, Weber, Tausig, Debussy and Bartók.
